Frequently Asked Questions

How does the HP Smart Tank ink system work?

The Smart Tank 5000 uses external refillable ink tanks instead of cartridges. When ink runs low, you pour ink directly from a bottle into the corresponding color tank — no cartridge required.

Does the HP Smart Tank 5000 support automatic duplex printing?

No — the Smart Tank 5000 supports manual duplex only. Paper must be flipped by hand for two-sided printing.

What ink bottles does the HP Smart Tank 5000 use?

The HP Smart Tank 5000 uses HP 32 (black) and HP 31 (cyan, magenta, yellow) ink bottles, available individually or in multi-packs for extended printing.
