The EMC VNX5600 Disk Processor Enclosure (DPE) is built for mid-tier enterprises that demand scalable and flexible storage. Designed with a modular architecture, the VNX5600 supports unified configurations that deliver file, block, and object-level storage in one system. It accommodates up to 500 drives across various DAE types, including 2.5" and 3.5" SAS, NL-SAS, and Flash drives. With RAID support for levels 0, 1, 3, 5, 6, and 10, and support for NAS, iSCSI, FC, and FCoE protocols, this system allows for tailored data protection and high-performance access across diverse workloads.


Equipped with a 4-core Intel Xeon processor and scalable up to 24 GB DDR3 per Storage Processor, the VNX5600 delivers both speed and efficiency. The system supports up to five I/O modules per SP, including options for 8/16 Gb/s FC, 10 Gb/s iSCSI, and FCoE, enabling high-throughput connectivity. Its compatibility with up to 19 DAEs and a variety of DAE types ensures massive storage growth potential, while support for up to four Data Movers and two Control Stations makes it ideal for unified deployments. The VNX5600 excels in virtualization, database, and analytics environments that require high-capacity, low-latency performance.


Data Movers Enclosure (DME):

On the front, the VNX8000 has from one to four DMEs having two to eight Data Movers (DMs). Each DM consists of One CPU module consisting of one Intel Xeon 6-core 2.8-GHz processor. The CPU modules in the DME contain the power, fault, and unsafe-to-remove LEDs. Six DDR3 synchronous dynamic RAM (SDRAM) slots supporting up to 24 GB per CPU module using 2 or 4 GB DIMMs.



The maximum number of I/O modules for the VNX8000 is five per DM. One FC I/O module and up to three other I/O modules. Five PCI Gen 2, 8x lane I/O module slots (0 – 4) available for use, supporting

  • Four-port 8-Gb/s optical (running at 2, 4, or 8 Gb/s); in slots A0 and B0 only;

3x I/O modules

Any combination of these I/O modules must be the same for both Data Movers.
