What's the difference between this and the other R640 builds?
Processors, memory and controller. This one has two 8-core Silver 4208s, 32GB and a PERC H330. Builds #2 and #3 step up to two 12-core Gold 6226s, 128GB and the PERC H740p with 8GB cache.
What RAID levels does the PERC H330 support?
RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50, without a cache. For heavy write workloads, the H740p in our other R640 builds is the better fit.
Where does the operating system go?
On the BOSS-S1 card's two mirrored 240GB M.2 SSDs. That keeps all eight front bays free for data.
Can I add a GPU?
Yes, a low-profile one. Dell supports the NVIDIA T4 16GB in the R640: up to three cards with both processors installed. Each draws 70W from its slot, so no GPU power cables are needed. Double-width cards like the A40 or V100 won't fit a 1U chassis, so see our R740xd GPU builds for those. Tell us your card and we'll confirm the fit.
Does it come with an operating system?
No. It supports Windows Server, VMware ESXi, Proxmox and major Linux distributions. iDRAC Enterprise lets you install remotely.
What warranty applies?
The Resilient Tec lifetime warranty. If something fails, we send an advance replacement when we have one in stock, or repair or replace it with an equivalent.
