First and foremost, it is important to remember that the batteries are sold separately. The grip does not include any lithium-ion batteries in the box, so you will need to purchase an additional battery (ideally the new LP-E6P) if you want to utilize its dual-slot capacity right away.
Secondly, while this grip is fully backwards compatible with older batteries (like the LP-E6NH), unlocking the absolute highest-end video features, pre-continuous capture, and fastest burst speeds of the newest cameras (like the R5 Mark II and R6 Mark III) requires the use of genuine Canon LP-E6P batteries.
To install the grip, you must physically remove the battery door from your camera body. Fortunately, Canon engineered a clever, hidden storage slot directly on the vertical grip's connection post where you can securely stash your camera's battery door so you don't lose it while the grip is attached.
Finally, please note that this is the standard BG-R20 grip. If you are a high-speed sports photojournalist who requires a hardwired LAN connection, you will want the BG-R20EP (which includes an Ethernet port). If you are a filmmaker who needs unlimited 8K video recording, you will want the CF-R20EP (which includes a built-in cooling fan).
