The Brother Workhorse MFC-L9630CDN is an enterprise color laser machine that prints, copies, scans and faxes on letter, legal and A4 paper. It runs at up to 42 pages a minute on letter paper (40 on A4), in color or black. The first page takes under 10 seconds.

The box also holds a DR810CL drum unit rated at about 100,000 pages, a belt unit rated at about 150,000 pages and a waste toner box. Brother calls the TN815 its lowest color cost per page.

A 520-sheet tray and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray hold 620 sheets. Brother's optional tower tray with a stabilizer adds four 520-sheet trays and turns the machine into a floor-standing unit. The total then reaches 2,700 sheets. A 250-sheet bin catches the pages face down.

A 100-sheet feeder scans both sides at up to 104 images a minute. The flatbed and feeder take pages up to 8.5 x 14 inches. A 7-inch color touchscreen runs the menus, and NFC lets staff tap a card to sign in. A list of 64 one-touch presets stores your scan and fax shortcuts. The feeder takes sheets from 12 to 32 lb, and a one-sheet face-up slot sits beside the main bin.

Brother rates the duty cycle at up to 120,000 pages a month. You get Gigabit Ethernet and USB. The machine measures about 19.8 x 23 x 21.3 inches and weighs about 80 pounds.
